Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Anthony Mustoe at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, TX. The lab’s work lies at the intersection of biology, chemistry, and computation, with the primary goal of defining the roles of RNA structure in gene regulation.
Multiple projects are available: (i) developing and applying chemical probing methods to characterize RNA structure and dynamics in mammalian cell lines; (ii) developing massively parallel reporter assays to interrogate RNA regulation; (iii) for computational scientists, integrating publicly available genomics datasets with RNA structural data to model disease processes. The position offers rigorous training in multiple disciplines and the opportunity to help build a new high-impact research program.
Applicants should currently hold a PhD or be an advanced graduate student. Ideally, applicants should have experience in one or more the following areas: RNA biochemistry, cell biology, biophysics, genomics, bioinformatics. Candidates with backgrounds in either experiment or computation who are interested in broadening their skills and working at the experiment/computation interface are particularly encouraged to apply.
The Mustoe Lab (mustoelab.org) is part of THINC@BCM, a collaborative community of scientists focused on studying and therapeutically targeting RNA. BCM is located in the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world, and is immediately adjacent to other outstanding research institutions including MD Anderson and Rice University. Houston is a dynamic, international city with an excellent cost of living.
The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with funding available for at least 3 years given satisfactory progress. The position(s) is available immediately. Candidates should send a CV, a cover letter indicating research interests and career goals, and contact details for three references to Tony Mustoe (email@example.com).
