We aim to recruit a highly motivated and skillful researcher with training in molecular biology, plant genetics, or bioengineering.
We seek to understand the impacts of climate change on plant species. Combining computational tools with experimental data, we have found many genomic positions involved in historical and ongoing adaptations. Leveraging CRISPR-based genetic engineering techniques, we aim to facilitate plant populations’ adaptation to anthropogenic disturbance and climate change. By creating natural genetic variants in combinations or different genomic backgrounds, we explore the following questions: (1) can we understand the architecture of adaptive traits and (2) can we break down trade-offs across ecological traits, and (3) can we understand the limits of adaptation by artificially increasing diversity? The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing next generation sequencing libraries for samples from the international GrENE-net project (https://www.moisesexpositoalonso.org/grene-net-project) and developing CRISPR multiplex editing approaches, funded by our NIH High-Risk High-Reward grant.

-Depending on the candidate, this position can be filled as technician or postdoc. The RA position would involve learning and supporting ongoing sequencing and transformation efforts and assisting with lab chores. The postdoc position requires leading research independently, setting up gene editing pipelines, participating in collaborative projects, preparing publications, and presenting research in scientific meetings.
This is a full-time position with a competitive annual salary and benefits. The lab is located at the Carnegie Institution on the Stanford University campus. Carnegie researchers have access to Stanford facilities. Stanford campus is a vibrant community embedded in the San Francisco Bay area, with opportunities for extensive social and scientific interactions. The initial position will be for one year with potential renewal of up to five years depending upon performance.

The ideal candidate would become an active member of this community and would strengthen collaborative connections with grad students, postdocs, and faculty members across campus.
