The Microscopy and Imaging Facility at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Light Microscope Specialist to train researchers and operate and maintain light microscopes in a core facility environment.
Train researchers on theory and proper operation of relevant instrumentation in the Microscopy and Imaging Facility.
Conduct independent operation of current and future instrumentation in the Microscopy and Imaging Facility, including, but not limited to, epifluorescence microscopes and confocal microscopes.
Advise researchers about experiment design, data acquisition, and image analysis.
Develop and execute operating and safety protocols as required for current equipment and future upgrades or changes in methodology. Maintain recordkeeping and scheduling for microscopy instrumentation.
Provide daily and periodic maintenance of current and future instrumentation and related computer systems in the Microscopy and Imaging Facility. Schedule with external service technicians as needed.
Assist with lab administrative duties.
Other related functions as assigned.
Master’s degree in life science, engineering, or related field or Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience
Hands-on experience operating light microscopes, including epifluorescence and confocal microscopes
Experience training others to use scientific instruments
Experience with microscope maintenance protocols, including cleaning and alignment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
