For over a century, scientists and clinicians have collectively combated cancer using a diversity of approaches, including drug treatment, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. In spite of the advances in prognosis and therapeutics in different types of cancer, many malignancies including liver, gastric, colorectal, head/neck, breast, ovarian and lung cancers remain difficult to treat.
Centre for Oncology and Immunology Limited (“COI”) was founded by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2020, co-led by world renown scientists Dr. Tak Mak and Dr. Suet Yi Leung. The long-term objective of COI is to employ novel functional screens, animal and cell models including organoids, immune-oncology approach, as well as advanced genomic and proteomic techniques down to single cell resolution to identify novel “druggable” cancer targets for hard-to-treat malignancies. The ultimate goal is to develop therapeutics against these targets and to conduct clinical trials evaluating these drugs along with biomarkers with an eye to their eventual commercialization worldwide. Success in this venture will address pressing unmet medical needs and establish Hong Kong as a leading hub of innovative anti-cancer and immuno-oncology drug development.
Job Description & Qualification:
Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant I/II (Ref: H03/2021/05), to commence as soon as possible, on a fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.
The appointees are expected to assist Post-Doctoral Fellows and Researchers in discovery of cancer biomarkers using large scale multi-omics approach, organoid technology and novel animal models, as well as anti-cancer or immuno-oncology drug development.
Passionate or interested in working in the laboratory environment.
The applicants should have a good command of written and spoken English and strong communication skills, and be self-motivated, organized, detail- minded, hardworking, willing to learn new techniques, and able to work well in a multidisciplinary team.
Applicants should possess a bachelor degree or above, preferably in Biomedical Sciences or related disciplines with at least 3 years’ relevant research experience in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Bioinformatics, Single Cell Technologies, Next Generation Sequencing techniques, or Medicinal Chemistry. They should have a good command of written and spoken English and strong communication skills, and be self-motivated, organized, detail- minded, hardworking, and able to work well in an interdisciplinary team. Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment as Research Assistant II.
