Research Technician
Research Technician Full-time
A full-time Research Technician position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Jia-Ray Yu, located at the Virginia Tech research facilities in the newly established Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus (CNRIC) in Washington, DC. The primary role of this position includes laboratory organization, technical assistance for wet lab based experiments, and maintenance of lab supplies/reagents. The common techniques used in lab include mammalian tissue culture, insect cell culture, protein purification, and basic molecular biology/biochemistry experiments. This position can serve you as the ideal springboard for pursuing advanced graduate education and a possibility of enrolling Virginia Tech graduate programs can be discussed.

Required qualifications:
• BA/BS degree in biology/biochemistry or any other related field.
• At least 1-year experience in a wet-lab based working environment.
• Basic laboratory technical skills are required, such as gel electrophoresis, western blot, PCR, cloning, and tissue culture.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and team skills.

Job duties:

Basic duties will include, but will not be limited to, working with protein purification; conducting biochemistry and other basic wet lab experiments; analyzing and summarizing research findings; maintaining mammalian cell lines;

Administrative support of the lab with the following responsibilities; inventory of chemicals, supplies and equipment; reagent preparation; ordering supplies, and general laboratory maintenance and organization.
Other duties as assigned.

Providing instruction and assistance in the use of laboratory equipment and research methods and techniques to other team members.
