A Special Project Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sandro Da Mesquita.
The Da Mesquita lab studies the meningeal lymphatic system in neurodegenerative disorders and is located in the Department of Neuroscience at the Mayo Clinic’s Florida research campus. The laboratory integrates several disciplines, techniques and state-of-the-art methodology to explore pathological mechanisms and biomarkers of aging-related neurological diseases like frontotemporal dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Our main focus is to understand the roles of the recently described meningeal lymphatic system in modulating brain homeostasis, aging, pathology and degeneration. Ultimately, we aim at developing therapeutic strategies that promote brain cleansing and boost neural function in the aged brain by improving the drainage capacity of the meningeal lymphatic vasculature.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with some degree of experience in general lab maintenance, techniques and equipment upkeep. Experience in mouse colony management, rodent handling, biological specimen collection and genotyping techniques will be a strong advantage. The successful candidate will have to be self-motivated, organized, show interest in learning new research techniques and innovative methodology and have the capacity to work alongside other team members in a supportive and cordial diverse and multidisciplinary environment. Understanding of basic concepts in the fields of neurovascular biology, neuroscience, neuroimmunology and/or immunology is an advantage.
A Special Project Associate at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to execute experimental studies in support of lab goals and grant commitments as designated by the Principal Investigator. The daily tasks include (but are not limited to): ordering and preparing lists of reagents and materials; assisting in sample and data collection, processing and organization; completion of assorted laboratory procedures and assays; performing data quantification and basic statistical analysis; making charts/graphs and presenting data. There is potential to transition into a one-year appointment with benefits following a very short initial time frame.
