Dr. Xin Zhou of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School seeks a highly motivated research technician for her research group to work on our newest ideas and to help establish and maintain the lab (https://zhou-lab.org/). This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates who are seeking an immersive research experience prior to continuing their career at graduate or medical school.
Studies in Dr. Zhou’s lab are aimed at engineering synthetic proteins designed to target immunity both outside and inside of cells, with the ultimate goal of reversing diseases. Lab members will work closely with Dr. Xin Zhou and senior lab personnel to design and implement protein engineering, antibody discovery, and cell engineering experiments. The recruited member can learn diverse laboratory techniques:
· Molecular cloning, cell culture, protein expression
· Biophysical characterization: binding measurement, structural analysis
· Protein evolution: Phage display, yeast display, protein library construction
· Immune cell (CAR-T, NK, etc.) engineering and characterization
· Fluorescence microscopy
· Cell-based phenotypic screen
As they build skills, the successful applicant will be expected to work with greater independence to execute SOPs across multiple projects; significant contributions of data and analysis will be recognized with co-authorship on scientific manuscripts.
The Zhou Lab has state-of-the-art facilities and a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment in Dana-Farber’s Longwood Center. We are part of the Chemical Biology program at Dana-Farber and the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School. We work with amazing partners at Harvard Medical School and other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals. We collaborate with disease-focused scientists and biotherapeutics scientists in both industry and academia to pursue new therapeutic approaches addressing human disease conditions.
As a newly established team, the Zhou lab is keen on cultivating a positive, caring, and inclusive laboratory environment, and focuses our time on training and supporting a new generation of scientists. As one of the very first team members, the successful applicant will work closely with Dr. Xin Zhou and play a key role in building the infrastructure of the lab.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s level degree in biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or related field by the start date, hands-on experience in laboratory research, and basic computer skills. Demonstrated experience in molecular cloning or protein expression is a plus, but not required. The successful candidate for this position will be energetic, eager to learn new techniques, and excited by the opportunity to work in a supportive and collegial multidisciplinary lab environment. Additional requirements for this position include strong interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, methodical record keeping, and a desire to contribute to research projects both independently and within a team.
Ideal candidates should start in Spring or Summer 2022, but we will also consider candidates starting in the Fall of 2022 if the position has not been filled.
Candidates are invited to send Dr. Xin Zhou (firstname.lastname@example.org) a CV, contact information of three references, and a cover letter briefly describing past experiences and future research interests.
