The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician to join the Halfmann lab (http://research.stowers.org/halfmannlab/). The lab studies a newly discovered but fundamental feature of biology: the storage and release of energy through protein supersaturation in cells. This research has broad implications for aging, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The chosen candidate will contribute to the lab’s goals by conducting research on protein self-assembly using genetic, biochemical and cytological approaches.
Responsibilities include standard molecular biology tasks such as handling and transformation of bacteria and yeast, plasmid preparation, amplification of DNA by PCR, human cell culture passaging and transfections, and protein fractionation and immunodetection.
In addition to excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to function in a team-oriented environment, the successful candidate will have prior professional experience in a molecular biology or biochemistry lab. Experience with eukaryotic cell culture will be advantageous. Attention to detail, tenacity, and the ability to multitask effectively are particularly valued.
Minimum requirements include an undergraduate degree in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, biophysics, or a related field, and prior relevant laboratory experience.
Application Instructions: To apply, please submit a current CV and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org or to Administration Department, Stowers Institute for Medical Research, 1000 E 50th Street, Kansas City, MO 64110
