Dr. McAlpine’s lab conducts basic research studying immune cells in Alzheimer’s disease. The lab has a particular interest in the biological mechanisms that link immune cells to Alzheimer’s disease. We use innovative animal models, human samples, and state-of-the-art technologies to ask important and profound biological questions. We are a multidisciplinary and inclusive team located in the Cardiovascular Research Institute and the Friedman Brain Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Our lab is situated one block from Central Park in beautiful New York City.
We are seeking postdoctoral fellows to explore how leukocytes, astrocytes, microglia, and their products mediate Alzheimer’s disease pathology. We have shown that interleukin-3, produced by astrocytes, programs microglia, shaping their transcriptional profile, morphology, and function, endowing them with an immune response and motile phenotype (McAlpine et al. Nature 2021). These responses restrict Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Building on these findings we are asking fundamental questions and exploring how immune growth factors, glial cell communication, and the immune system shapes Alzheimer’s disease pathology.

We are seeking motivated postdocs with a background in immunology, cardiology, and/or neuroscience or related field. Postdoctoral Fellows will work on exciting projects and science. They will be expected to work collaboratively with other faculty, postdocs, staff, and students. They will design and conduct experiment; summarize, interpret, and publish their data; develop grant proposals and apply for funding; design and adapt new research techniques; and publish their findings. Postdoctoral fellows will have dedicated lab and desk space, access to writing and computational areas and conference rooms. Dedicated administrative and technical teams will aid in all necessary tasks related to grant writing and submission, publication, financials, hiring, and smooth technical operations in the lab. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to work collaboratively as part of a cooperative multidisciplinary team.
Interested candidates should send their CV to Dr. Cameron McAlpine: firstname.lastname@example.org
