A PhD position is available at the Institute of Experimental Epileptology and Cognition Research, University of Bonn Medical Centre, Germany.
The candidate will participate in the Research Unit (RU; Forschergruppe FG2715) focusing on ‘Epileptogenesis of Genetic Epilepsies’. The Research Unit FG2715 is a collaboration between clinicians, geneticists and neurophysiologists working together to uncover new candidate genes and determine how genetic mutations interact with the development of neuronal circuits to generate aberrant network activity in genetic epilepsies.
Our project focuses on hippocampal pathway integration in the SCN2A model of genetic epilepsy. The project will use in-vivo two photon calcium imaging techniques in awake behaving animals to study the hippocampal network during seizures and cognitive comorbidities. Developmental interventions will target cellular and circuits changes during epileptogenesis to rescue the epilepsy phenotype.
We are searching for an ambitious, highly motivated team-orientated individual with a strong interest in neurobiology who enjoys the technical challenge of cutting-edge research and displays independence. Previous experience in in-vivo or in-vitro electrophysiology or multiphoton imaging techniques is desirable. Aptitude in English, a capability to work well with other laboratory members, and good communication skills are expected. We offer a highly motivating, vibrant neuroscience environment with an outstanding technological background and infrastructure.
The position will be a 65% full time equivalent. Salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L E13. The position is available starting November 2021 for a period of 3 years, with possible extension.
Candidates should hold a diploma or a master’s degree in neuroscience, neurobiology, physics, or a related subject. Please send applications consisting of a cover letter, CV, copies of the last university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) and two referee’s contact information by email as a single PDF.
The University of Bonn is an equal opportunity employer.
