A postdoctoral position is available in the Meyer lab at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis to study mechanisms of neurodegeneration using human pluripotent stem cells. Of particular interest is our ability to derive and experiment with retinal ganglion cells from human pluripotent stem cells, from which we are currently focused on elucidating mechanisms underlying disease phenotypes in induced pluripotent stem cells derived from optic neuropathy patients. Additionally, we are also actively focused upon multiple active collaborations within the Stark Neurosciences Research Institute focused upon the use of human pluripotent stem cells for in vitro modeling of neurodegenerative aspects of Alzheimer’s disease.
The applicant must have an MD and/or PhD and an outstanding record of research productivity in at least one of the following areas: Stem Cell Biology, Neurophysiology, or Neurodegeneration. Experience with either CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology or single cell patch clamp approaches are highly preferred. Candidates with strong cell culture experience in general are strongly preferred. The candidate should also have strong communication skills in both oral presentation and writing, and be capable of working independently but could also contribute to a larger team project.
The Indiana University School of Medicine is the largest in the country, with dynamic and productive research programs in a variety of areas including neuroscience and regenerative biology. The Indianapolis metropolitan area is a vibrant community with a low cost of living and numerous opportunities for social activities and community engagement. The downtown Indianapolis area boasts numerous award-winning activities and restaurants, with surrounding suburbs consistently ranked among the best places to live in America.
