A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Drinnenberg lab at Institut Curie, Paris. We are looking for highly motivated researches with interests in molecular evolution, chromatin biology and centromere regulation.
As a postdoc, you will develop and lead an exciting project that will provide insights into the evolutionary plasticity of centromeres and chromosomes segregation processes. You will work with an unconventional model system, cells derived from the silk moth Bombyx mori, that we are establishing in the lab to help to understand a new chromosome segregation pathway that functions independently of its otherwise essential component CenH3/CENP-A.
You will work in a dynamic research environment combining interdisciplinary approaches including genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics. Our young group that started in 2016 consists of 6 enthusiastic and dedicated PhD students, researchers and engineers with expertise in both experimental and bioinformatic analyses. Among other funding sources, we were also awarded an ERC starting grant for the research in our lab.
You will leverage cell biological and biochemical tools combined with high-resolution microscopy techniques that we have recently developed for our model system, B. mori (see Cortes-Silva et al. 2020 and Senaratne et al. 2020) to study its chromosome segregation and kinetochore assembly pathway. The aim of this project is to understand the molecular mechanism that lead to the loss of the otherwise essential centromere component CenH3/CENP-A in B. mori. In addition to this project, your own ideas and creativity on other related questions are always welcome!
