Maurano Lab, Institute for Systems Genetics, NYU School of Medicine
A Bioinformatics Programmer position is available in the Maurano Lab at the Institute for Systems Genetics at the New York University School of Medicine.
We are looking for a candidate to scale up our existing sequencing data and analysis pipelines as well as develop new ones. The candidate will play a key role interfacing with scientists in our NHGRI-funded Center for Synthetic Regulatory Genomics, which is using large-scale DNA synthesis and assembly to evaluate fundamental questions in gene regulation at loci associated with human traits and diseases (Brosh et al. PNAS 2021).
Applicants should have a undergraduate degree in CS or a quantitative field, and experience with the UNIX environment and languages such as Python, R, C, or Java. Coursework in data structures, algorithms, machine learning, and statistics and familiarity with Illumina sequencing data analysis are highly desirable. While a background in biology is a plus, we welcome those with the interest and motivation to learn a new field.
For more information, see our lab website at http://www.mauranolab.org or our publications at: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=%22Maurano+MT%22&sort=pubdate
Our laboratory is located on the east side of Manhattan at the NYU School of Medicine. We are affiliated with the Institute for Systems Genetics, the Department of Pathology, and the Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. We are co-located with the Center for Human Genetics and Genomics and the Institute for Computational Medicine. The Institute is designed to foster inter-disciplinary research at the cutting edge of human genetics and genomic technology, and hosts dedicated high-performance computing resources, sequencing, cells sorting, and other support facilities, and an automation suite with multiple liquid handling robots enabling rapid scaling of new techniques.
Interested parties should email a CV or resume and names of three references to Matthew Maurano (email@example.com). The position is available immediately.
