A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Kanold in the Dept. of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. We study how auditory information is represented in the brain, how this representation emerges, and how this information relates to behavior (http://www.kanold.org).
The postdoctoral researcher will lead one of the projects investigating the readout and control of spatiotemporal neuronal codes for behavior. This project is part of a large NIH BRAIN Initiative funded collaboration, which involves experimentalists, physicists, and theorists (http://www.holobrain.org) and allows exploration of a broad variety of related topics. We mainly use in vivo 2-photon Ca2+- imaging combined with in vivo 2-photon holographic optogenetic stimulation in behaving mice combined with computational analysis. This is an opportunity for candidates to work in-between developing cutting edge technologies and to apply the technologies to fundamental scientific questions.
Postdoctoral fellows in the lab have had a variety of backgrounds ranging from engineering and neuroscience to math. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, engineering, or related disciplines, and a background in systems neuroscience. Special considerations are given to applicants with training in imaging, in vivo physiology, computational approaches, and programming skills.
We are in Miller Research Building 380.
