The laboratory of Dr. Jeremy Kamil at LSU Health Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana, USA has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow, who would lead their own independent research project(s) addressing the molecular basis for human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infectivity. Compensation would be according to the NIH Ruth Kirschstein NRSA postdoctoral pay scale https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-21-049.html. The Kamil lab leverages viral molecular genetics and molecular biology approaches to address how HCMV enters a wide range of human cell types it infects (cell tropism). We also are interested in how cell signaling pathways are re-wired by the virus, and how the virus regulates its replication cycle in response to various intrinsic and extrinsic signals, e.g., growth factors, interferons, et cetera. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D., an M.D., or an equivalent degree in cell and or molecular biology, immunology, biology, bacteriology, glycobiology, plant or animal virology, or a related field. Strong critical thinking, creativity, communication skills, and previous experience in some of the following techniques would be helpful: immunofluorescent microscopy, cloning and/or mutagenesis, mammalian cell culture, PCR, immunoblotting, affinity chromatography, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, RNA Seq and/or related “-omics” techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to lead one or more independent hypothesis driven research projects, maintain cell cultures and virus stocks necessary for their work, keep good records / an up-to-date lab book, draft and revise manuscripts, figures, and presentations in collaboration with Dr. Kamil, help with ordering of supplies and routine lab duties, present their data at laboratory and department seminars as well as at international / national scientific conferences, and productively interact with graduate students and other members of the department. To apply please send a C.V., a cover letter, and contact information for at least two references to Dr. Kamil at Jeremy.Kamil@LSUHS.edu.
LSU Health Shreveport is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
