The Ma Laboratory at Seattle Children’s Research Institute seeks a motivated and eager to learn Research Scientist to join our team. We use computational and experimental systems biology to study host and pathogen responses during tuberculosis infection and treatment in primary ex vivo cellular, zebrafish, and mouse models.
In this role, you would be performing experiments including: (1) measuring the survival and metabolic state of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in response to infection and drug treatment in a BSL-3 environment, (2) generating recombinant Mtb strains, (3) measuring mRNA gene expression in bacterial and mammalian cells (primarily macrophages) with RNA sequencing, (4) using DNA sequencing to perform forward-genetic screens, and (5) performing basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. You would also contribute to mentoring undergraduate labmates and helping with lab organization.
As part of our lab, active projects that you would work on include: (1) screening for and characterizing host and pathogen regulators that alter infection outcome in primary host cells, and (2) understanding how the Mtb transcriptional responses to individual and combination drug treatment influence the phenotypic outcomes.
This is a full time, 1.0 FTE position, with flexible hours. Some weekend work is to be expected.
* Bachelor’s Degree in biology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology or biochemistry.
* Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
* 1+ years of cloning and/or microbiology experience needed
* 1+ years of mammalian cell culture or mouse handling experience preferred
