Job Title: Research Technician. Start date: January-September, 2022 (negotiable). >2-year commitment.
The Dou laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School is looking for highly motivated individuals to join our lab. Dou lab studies aging and cancer, with the goals to develop new strategies to treat age-associated diseases. Examples of our recent studies can be found at Nature 2017 Oct 19;550(7676):402-406 and Nature 2015 Nov 5;527(7576):105-9. Successful candidates will work directly with scientists investigating molecular, cellular, and animal models of aging and cancer, and will be exposed to sophisticated experimental approaches including viral genetics, advanced imaging, genomics, proteomics, and mouse models of diseases. Many previous technicians working with Dr. Dou appeared as co-authors on major publications and successfully advanced their careers in graduate and medical schools. Minimum degree and field of knowledge: B.S./B.A. in Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related.
Recommended research experience: 1 year + experience. Prior experience in molecular and cellular biology is essential. Mouse experience preferred but not required. All levels of experience will be considered.
The candidate is expected to independently carry out daily activities of the laboratory with minimal supervision. Duties include:
Development of scientific projects, new experimental techniques and assays. Participation in project discussion and experimental designs.
Independently perform experiments; document and analyze results obtained from laboratory experiments.
Assist lab personnel with routine experiments, such as molecular cloning and cell culture.
Mouse colony management and genotyping to maintain mouse lines.
Systematic generation and maintenance of database/inventory of lab supplies, plasmids, bacterial stocks, lab records and mouse colony. Order reagents and supplies. Maintain compliance with biosafety guidelines.
Minimally 1 year of experience in a research laboratory. Familiar with routine molecular and cellular biology assays. Senior levels of experience will also be considered.
Must be highly motivated and organized, prudent in time management and capable of juggling multiple tasks and competing priorities.
Comfortable working with mice.
Quick to learn new skills on the job and work independently.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving/analytical skills. Excellent team player.
Critical thinking skills and attention to details.
Oversee purchasing, inventories and maintenance of laboratory equipment, supplies, reagents and stock solutions. Communicate with vendors regarding service contracts, maintenance and repairs.
