Dr. Matthew N McCall (https://mnmccall.com) is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research associate to join his research group at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). This position is funded by an NIH/NIGMS R01 grant to develop novel methods for microRNA-seq data; however, the postdoctoral researcher will have the flexibility to engage in additional research areas such as modeling the effects of tissue composition and cellular localization on genomic measurements, developing methods to quantify and analyze changes in cell morphology, and modeling cellular networks.
The McCall lab seeks to develop and apply the statistical methods required to tackle challenging problems in biomedical genomic research through open, rigorous, and reproducible methods and analyses. Our approach is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, demonstrated by our affiliation with the Department of Biomedical Genetics, the Center for Biomedical Informatics, and the Goergen Institute for Data Science, and our long-term collaborations at both URMC and other institutions.
Dr. McCall will provide consistent mentorship and work with the postdoctoral research to achieve their career goals. To this end, the postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to engage in scientific and professional development including presenting their work at local and national conferences, mentoring students, and participating in coursework or teaching, if they so choose.

Qualifications: The applicant should have a PhD in statistics, data science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field. Candidates with a background in the biological sciences and strong quantitative skills are also encouraged to apply. Experience with statistical programming in R is desirable. Successful candidates will also have excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, and a proven track record of collaborative, peer-reviewed publications.
