MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist
£37,431-£40,272* p.a. inclusive of allowances
We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic scientist who wants to join a dynamic, scientifically stimulating and collaborative research team within Dr Chris Schiering’s lab at the Medical Research Council (MRC) London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) at Imperial College London (https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/research-group/inflammation-and-obesity/).
The Schiering lab investigates the complex interplay between environment, inflammation and metabolism with a particular focus on vascular biology of the gastrointestinal tract. We use a combination of preclinical disease models, clinical samples and single-cell multi-omics approaches to better understand how environmental cues, such as diet and microbiota, impact chronic inflammatory diseases of the gut such as inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.
You will have substantive experience in imaging techniques (confocal & light sheet microscopy) and/or pre-clinical models of gut inflammation/colorectal cancer. Experience with clinical samples is desirable but not required. Candidates with a keen interest in the gastrointestinal tract, inflammation, cancer and/or vascular biology are strongly encouraged to apply. This role also provides the opportunity to mix wet and dry lab work through our established in-house sequencing pipelines (model organism and human samples).
You must have a strong publication record, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a track record of addressing scientific problems in an innovative, thoughtful and systematic manner.
The LMS is funded by the MRC and is a Division of the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College. Based on the Hammersmith Hospital Campus in West London (W12), the LMS provides a thriving research environment with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including microscopy, high-throughput sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics and multiparameter flow cytometry. For more information, visit https://lms.mrc.ac.uk.
The LMS is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation. UK Research and Innovation is an entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org This is an MRC Postdoctoral Scientist position providing training and development supporting post-doctoral scientists in early or changed career paths helping establish them as successful research scientists in their chosen field.
Please contact Dr Schiering for further information about the post (firstname.lastname@example.org).
