The Biomedical Sciences and Precision Medicine Programs at Midwestern University has an opening for a highly motivated research assistant. The Research Assistant provides technical support to the Biomedical Sciences and Precision Medicine faculty members in relation to their research projects and grants. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) or senior member of the lab. The position reports to the Program Director of the Biomedical Sciences department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical science discipline.
0-2 years of previous research experience in either an industry or academic laboratory setting.
Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of organization.
Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Intermediate skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision correctable to 20/40 in one eye, close vision, color vision, and depth vision, especially for using microscopes.
