Working at MIT offers opportunities, an environment, a culture – and benefits – that just aren’t found together anywhere else. If you’re curious, motivated, want to be part of a unique community, and help shape the future – then take a look at this opportunity.
Information on MIT’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement can be found at the bottom of this posting.
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Biological Engineering-Hansen, AbuGoot and Subramanian Labs, to join a multi-lab collaboration funded by the Broad Institute’s Gene Regulation Observatory (GRO). The focus will be on systematically understanding the rules that govern transcription factor (TF) function in cells and involve a combination of cell culture, molecular biology, genome-editing, super-resolution and single-molecule fluorescence microscopy, and computational analysis. Will use cutting-edge genome-editing methods to systematically chart the function of TFs. Will collaborate across three labs–the Hansen Lab at MIT, which specializes in single-molecule and super-resolution microscopy of TFs; the AbuGoot Lab at MIT McGovern, which specializes in the development and application of cutting-edge genome-editing methodology; and the Subramanian Lab at the Broad Institute, which specializes in high-throughput and quantitative dissection of gene regulatory networks. Responsibilities include cloning of DNA constructs for genome editing; genome-editing of mammalian cells and tissue culture of mammalian cells; participating in biochemical and high-resolution live-cell fluorescence microscopy experiments; and assisting with general laboratory maintenance, e.g., maintaining lab supplies and inventory, ensuring regulatory and safety compliance, and other tasks.
This position is ideal for someone looking for additional training before entering graduate/medical school.
REQUIRED: B.A./B.S. in molecular or cell biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or closely related field; at least two years’ specialized lab experience (may include experience gained as an undergraduate); understanding of modern molecular and cell biology; strong organizational and written and oral communication skills; attention to detail; initiative and self-motivation when fulfilling tasks; willingness to learn and acquire new experimental and computational skills; and ability to multitask, clearly document work and maintain an accurate lab notebook, and work independently and collaboratively with lab members. Job #20016
The position may require the ability to work nights and weekends as required by experiments.
Application material must include a cover letter explaining your interest in this position, a CV, and contact information for at least two references.
Must be willing to start in January 2022 or close to this date.
