Postdoctoral Fellow – Bioinformatics in Clonal Hematopoiesis
Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute is proud to be Florida’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center located in Tampa. We strive to be the leader in understanding the complexity of cancer through team science and applying those insights for human benefits. Every Team Member of Moffitt focuses on our lasting commitment to our mission: To contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow interested in bioinformatics innovation of clonal hematopoiesis (CH) molecular signatures in cancer. The main responsibilities include developing bioinformatics approaches for processing, detecting, visualizing, and interpreting cancer-associated CH signatures. This primarily includes next-generation DNA sequencing data, but may also incorporate RNAseq and single-cell DNA and RNA sequencing. This is a joint position between laboratories of Dr. Nancy Gillis and Dr. Mingxiang Teng. Dr. Gillis is a leading scientist in the field of clonal hematopoiesis and personalized medicine with an emphasis on clinical translation of research findings (https://moffitt.org/research-science/researchers/nancy-gillis-johnson/). Dr. Teng’s research is focused on data challenges in understanding cancer mechanisms, particularly the high-throughput genomic data cleaning, modeling and integration (https://moffitt.org/research-science/researchers/mingxiang-teng/). With the combined expertise from both labs, this position will provide great opportunities for acedemic career planning in translational research.
Opportunities to join T32 Training Grant of Integrated Program in Cancer and Data Science.
You will be encouraged and supported to apply for training grants.
Opportunities to contribute and lead cross-disciplinary research presentations and publications to build your career portfolio.
The Ideal Candidate:
· Computational and programming experience, including demonstrated proficiency in Python or Perl and R.
· Familiarity with high performance computing in a Unix environment.
· Notable experience conducting data cleaning and QC.
· Research experience in the areas of quantitative genomics.
· A commitment to reproducible and open science workflows.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Genomic data processing and methodology development toward clonal hematopoiesis molecular signature identification in cancers.
Manage the scientific advancement of multiple studies simultaneously.
· Develop scientific writing and presentation skills, including grant proposals, manuscript. preparation, and formal seminars presented to the Moffitt scientific community and at national scientific meetings.
Credentials and Qualifications:
· Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in computer science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, genomics, or related field.
· Should have at least one first-author publication.
You will be eligible for benefits offered to our Team Members – Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Retirement, Parental Leave and more. With a move to Tampa, you may be eligible for relocation allowance. Reason to relocate, aside from the sunshine, beaches and year-round outdoor recreation associated with the Gulf Coast of Florida, Tampa is a thriving metropolitan city with unique cultural attractions, low cost of living and a high quality of life. We strive for work/life balance.
If you have the vision, passion, and dedication to contribute to our mission,
then we have a place for you.
How to Apply: Interested applicants should send a single PDF file that includes a cover letter summarizing their research training and accomplishments, a personal statement of scientific interests and goals, current CV with recent publications, and contact information for three references to Dr. Nancy Gillis (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Dr. Mingxiang Teng (email@example.com)
