Structural Characterization of Allergen- Antibody Interactions
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC
Position Description:
A postdoctoral fellow is sought for structural studies of allergens and allergen complexes with human-derived antibodies. Our lab is particularly interested in identifying immunodominant epitopes on major allergens from peanuts, tree nuts, milk, dust mites, birch pollen, cats, and dogs. The structural information will be useful for the design of emerging therapeutics to treat allergy including hypoallergens and therapeutic antibodies.
The position is in the NMR group led by Dr. Mueller in the Genome Integrity and Structural Biology Laboratory (GISBL), a Branch within the intramural research program of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The candidate will have the opportunity to apply other structural biology techniques including but not limited to NMR, X-ray crystallography, and Cryo-EM in pursuit of the research question. In addition to the resources within the group, the trainee will have access to extensive core facilities, including cores in bioinformatics, protein expression, NMR, X-ray crystallography, and Cryo-EM to facilitate their research.
The NIEHS consistently ranks very high as a destination for postdoctoral training. The trainee will benefit from an extensive career development infrastructure and competitive benefits. Training and mentorship will be provided on all necessary techniques, enabling trainees to expand their research experiences in preparation for successful careers in academia, industry, or government.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed, or be close to obtaining a Ph.D. and/or M.D., ideally with less than 5 years of postdoctoral training. Expertise in structural biology or protein biochemistry is preferred. A background or an interest in the field of immunology, allergy, or allergology would be considered an asset.
To Apply:
For immediate consideration, applicants should send the following materials to Dr. Geoffrey Mueller, GISBL/NIEHS ( mueller3@niehs.nih.gov ): (i) a Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) including education/training history and bibliography; and (ii) contact information for at least 3 references with email addresses and phone numbers.
Any questions relating to the position can be directed to Dr. Mueller at the email address listed above. For more information please see:
