ERC funded project (2021-2026)
NeuroFish: « Neurofilaments in health and neurodegenerative diseases»
Job offers: postdoctoral scientists, PhD student & engineer
We are seeking highly motivated candidates for neuronal cytoskeleton, to work on a project aiming at fueling innovation in fundamental neurobiology and therapeutic development.
Science. Major cytoskeletal component of neurons, Neurofilaments (NFs) provide the structural scaffold of axons and exhibit a rich functional diversity throughout the nervous system (Bomont, Curr Opin Cell Biol 2021 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ceb.2020.10.011). Important for physiology, NF genes are mutated in several peripheral neuropathies, producing mutant-NF aggregation that is shared by most neurodegenerative diseases in human. With such fundamental and clinical significance, our project aims at decoding the roles of NFs in vivo in a physiological environment, using the zebrafish model. This project has the ambition to decipher the regulation and functions of NFs, and to develop new therapeutic avenues for neurodegenerative diseases.
Profiles. 3-year positions for 2 postdoctoral researchers and 1 PhD student, 5-year position for 1 engineer. Mandatory for all profiles: curious, enthusiastic & team player. Background in neurobiology. 2 profiles with prior experience in zebrafish; 1 profile with strong skills in proteomics; 1 profile with strong skills in applying advanced live microscopy approaches. Preferred: expertise in cytoskeleton and/or neurodegenerative disorders. French speaking is NOT a requirement.
When/how to apply. Starting date ASAP in 2021, but due to the pandemic, we will accommodate the selected candidates. Deadline for submission is fixed to 31th March 2021. For the PhD student, the targeted date is 2022, so candidates can anticipate and send applications ahead. Please send your application in a SINGLE 3 page long pdf, including you CV, summary of your previous research experiences, and contact information of 2-3 references to Pascale Bomont.
Where. Our team recently joined the NeuroMyoGene institute, located in the Rockefeller campus, in the highly dynamic and international city of Lyon, France. Lyon is considered as one of the most attractive metropoles in Europe, with a strong signature in biological science, architecture, & gastronomy (which we hope to enjoy soon again!)
