Multiple postdoc and technician positions at the intersection of plant-microbe interactions, microbial ecology and ecological and evolutionary genomics
The labs of Fabrice Roux (CNRS Toulouse), Joy Bergelson (NYU) and Detlef Weigel (Max Planck Institute) have recently been awarded a 6-year ERC-Synergy grant, entitled “Understanding and predicting PATHOgen COMmunities (PATHOCOM)”. Our joint project presents the vanguard of an entirely new way of solving long-lasting questions of the genetic and ecological drivers of microbial community dynamics in plant hosts. The full text of our proposal can be found at https://figshare.com/articles/preprint/PATHOCOM_proposal/13174337.
For this project, we are looking for four postdocs to join our team in Tübingen, Toulouse or New York, and two technicians for our team in Toulouse or New York. Our project includes a range of sophisticated approaches, from extensive and systematic analyses of microbiome activities in natural settings to ultra-high-throughput infection assays in the lab and advanced modeling of community dynamics, in collaboration with Mary Sara McPeek and Stefano Allesina from the University of Chicago. Preferred applicants will have a background in any of the following areas: plant-microbe or plant-pathogen interactions, microbial evolution, ecological and evolutionary genomics, high-throughput assays, large-scale field experiments, ecological modeling. We will also consider applicants from other fields, but if you do not yet have relevant experience, please address in your cover letter why you would be a good fit for our project.
Our interdisciplinary project presents extensive learning and training opportunities, as you will be part of a collaborative team that integrates field and laboratory experiments with field surveys, statistical and comparative genomic analyses and theory to understand how pathogens succeed in the context of complex microbial communities. We expect that you are enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and that you have an appreciation for the importance of both molecular and ecological mechanisms driving patterns in the natural world around us. Because we are working as a single team across the three sites, there are opportunities to work directly with team members in New York, Toulouse and Tübingen.
We offer a highly supportive environment, with team leaders who have a proven track record of mentoring and advancing the careers of their coworkers. In your cover letter, please address how you could contribute to the general PATHOCOM framework, and how PATHOCOM could be a catalyst for your own ambitions. Please provide links to up to three published papers or preprints, a CV/biosketch, and names of three referees.
We value diversity, and CNRS, NYU and the Max Planck Institute specifically encourage applications from groups that are underrepresented in science.
We will jointly interview and select candidates, but we ask that you write directly to either Joy Bergelson (email@example.com), Detlef Weigel (firstname.lastname@example.org), or Fabrice Roux (email@example.com) to apply for the positions.
We will begin to evaluate applications on August 1, 2021, and continue consider applications until the positions are filled.
