The Libby lab at Northeastern University is seeking an experienced and motivated laboratory Research Technician to support our projects for developing cell-based biosensors. The Research Technician will construct bacterial strains and perform experiments to study synthetic biological circuits. This will include designing, executing and validating cloning strategies and testing strains. The successful candidate will also conduct assays using microscopic, biochemical and fluorometric techniques including microscopy and flow cytometry. Responsibilities also include data analysis, producing written documentation, and preparing short reports of this work. The successful candidate will also participate in lab maintenance in support of this project including ordering and preparing reagents, maintaining, and establishing records for plasmid and strain databases and other responsibilities as needed.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include following experimental protocols and maintaining detailed and rigorous records, developing and conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments using molecular and cellular biology techniques, including but not limited to cloning, DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, western blotting; microscopic, biochemical and fluorometric techniques including microscopy and flow cytometry. The research technician will also participate in lab maintenance in support of this project including ordering and preparing reagents, maintaining, and establishing records for plasmid and strain databases. The employee will also be needed in analyzing data, interpreting, and communicating results.
Qualifications: A BS or MS, preferably in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related field. Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory techniques such as molecular cloning and microbiological culture required. Experience with biological hypothesis testing and statistical methods for data analysis required.
Candidates must be interested in working with technical aspects of synthetic biology and biosensor development. Strong organizational skills and abilities to work alongside other scientists without extensive supervision are also required. Willingness to learn new techniques as required for project progress.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with flow cytometry and microscopy is preferred. 1-2 years of prior research experience in an academic or industrial setting is strongly preferred, but not required.
