The Misharin laboratory at the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, is seeking a bioinformatician/data analyst with expertise in genomics data to support ongoing projects in our group and with collaborators.
The Misharin laboratory applies state-of-the-art genomic and computational tools to understand immune mechanisms governing lung injury and repair (see Grant et al., Nature, 2021; Watanabe et al., PNAS, 2021; Bharat et al., Sci Trans Med, 2020; Lotfollahi et al., bioRxiv, 2020; Reyfman et al., AJRCCM, 2019). The laboratory strives towards open, reproducible, and collaborative science. Our group provides a safe, comfortable, and stimulating work environment and excellent opportunities for professional development.
We are looking for candidates with training in computational biology, biostatistics, machine learning, or bioinformatics. Relevant skills include: UNIX/shell programming, R and/or Python, git/GitHub and version control, familiarity with next generation sequencing workflows and Illumina sequencing data formats, fundamentals in statistics and machine learning, and experience with RNA-seq/scRNA-seq and ATAC-seq analysis. Prior experience with metagenomics analysis is a plus. Prior experience with project management, agile, and scrum methodologies is a plus.
Responsibilities include analysis of genomics data, including but not limiting to RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, and integration of clinical and experimental metadata with genomic assays. Other responsibilities include maintenance and development of computational pipelines supporting processing, organization, distribution, and archiving of next-generation sequencing data and maintenance of code repositories (GitHub).
Candidates with B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degrees in the appropriate field are eligible to apply. Students currently enrolled in M.S. and Ph.D. programs and approaching graduation within several months are encouraged to reach out now to discuss upcoming opportunities. Interested candidates should send their CV and cover letter to Alexander Misharin at firstname.lastname@example.org and submit applications via NU Careers portal https://careers.northwestern.edu/, JobID 41331.
Northwestern University is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer of all protected classes, including veterans and individuals with disabilities. Women, racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the United States.
