The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology, and the Mnatsakanyan Laboratory in Hershey, PA are seeking applications for post-doctoral or research scientist (research faculty) positions. The candidate will work on the multidisciplinary research project combining cryo-electron microscopy, tomography, and animal models of Alzheimer’s disease to study the mitochondria-mediated cell death mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. The candidate will be involved in large-scale protein purification, reconstitution, and cryo-EM studies to investigate the structure and function of mitochondrial channels/transporters (ATP synthase, etc.) and their role in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. The selected individual will be expected to assist in developing, designing, and conducting research and will gain the training needed to become an independent researcher in the growing field of mitochondrial physiology.
The candidate will join a vibrant scientific community and will have access to the outstanding Core Facilities and Research Resources within the Penn State College of Medicine, including state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility housing a 300 kV Titan Krios microscope, equipped with a K3 direct electron detector, a Volta phase plate, and Gatan energy filter.
Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in biophysics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related areas in hand by the time of start. Experience in one of the following areas is preferred: protein biochemistry/biophysics, structural biology, cryo-EM, cryo-ET.
