The Reilly Lab in the Genetics Department Yale School of Medicine is seeking postdoctoral researchers for funded projects to understand how genetic variants impact human health, evolution, and disease. We seek to answer a fundamental question remaining in biology: “how do genetic changes lead to functional changes at the molecular, cellular, and phenotypic level?” We aim for high impact science that reveals foundational mechanisms of the genome and prioritize tackling the fields biggest questions.
We’re especially interested in understanding the role of non-coding, cis-regulatory elements (CREs) in the genome, with a focus on variation within them. We’ve developed CRISPR non-coding screens (Nature Genetics 2021), high-throughput reporter assays (Cell 2021), and machine learning methods as part of the ENCODE consortium to address these problems. Our lab applies these tools to understand the precise genetic mechanisms underlying complex traits, evolutionarily significant genomic loci, and disease risk for neurological, autoimmune and metabolic disorders. We are looking for experienced candidates who are excited about these questions, but also value folks from a diversity of backgrounds and scientific training. Candidates interested in gene-regulatory biology, statistical genetics, deep-learning, experimental assay development, human evolution, or genome-editing would all find a home in our lab. The lab prides itself on building an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative environment, deeply committed to the tailored professional development of all of the lab’s trainees.
Interested applications should email Steve, briefly describing your scientific interests, how they intersect with our lab’s interests, and include your CV. Post-doctoral applicants should also submit a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement and include copies of their major manuscripts. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
