The Yang Lab at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, located in Newark, NJ, seeks a postdoctoral fellow for systems biology research into the signaling and metabolic regulation of immune cells. The project leverages high-throughput microscopy, whole-cell network modeling, and machine learning to answer fundamental questions on how innate immune cells sense and respond to cues in their environment. This project seeks to elucidate causal signaling and metabolic mechanisms underlying the selection of key immune cell phenotypes in the context of chronic and infectious diseases.
The Yang Lab is a diverse and inclusive research environment focused on addressing the most important challenges in global health with systems biology approaches. Our mission is to do work that is impactful, using technologies that are innovative, unlocking therapies that are inspired. Projects in the lab bring together quantitative experimental and computational modeling techniques to accelerate our causal understanding for important biomedical and clinical phenotypes. The lab is well-resourced and mentorship is an important value for the lab. We are a part of Rutgers University’s Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, Center for Emerging and Re-Emerging Pathogens, and Institute for Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases.
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in immunology, systems biology, or related field. Extensive coding experience in Python, R, or MATLAB is necessary. Experimental experience with tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, fluorescence microscopy, and/or animal models is strongly preferred. Computational experience in network modeling, machine learning, automated image analysis, and/or sequencing analysis is strongly preferred. J1 visas can be sponsored for the successful applicant.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to email Dr. Yang with a CV, a brief cover letter describing long-term career goals and research interests, PDFs for 3 representative and relevant publications (submitted preprints are encouraged), and contact information for 3 references. Please use the subject line: “POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW APPLICATION”.
