The Grosso lab within the Rutgers – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Institute for Neurological Therapeutics is inviting applicants for a full-time post-doc position to participate in a project studying the neurobiology of neurodegenerative diseases.
The mission of the Institute is to conduct innovative and interdisciplinary translational research projects that lead to the elucidation of the molecular pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases and the development of novel therapeutics. The goal of the Grosso lab is to investigate the role of autophagy in normal cognition and how disruptions in this pathway contribute to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. A major focus of the laboratory is understanding the connection between synaptic dysfunction and cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s disease. The lab is housed in a state-of-the art research building located in the Piscataway, New Jersey campus of Rutgers University.
The post-doctoral fellow will take a lead role in experimental design, data collection, and data analysis, as well as manuscript and grant writing. A PhD and/or MD in Neuroscience, Biology, or a relevant science is required at the start of the appointment. Applicants must have demonstrated proficiency in experimental ‘wet lab’ research skills. Relevant research skills, and preferred qualifications, include management of colonies of genetically modified mice, mouse behavioral testing, biochemical techniques such as Western blotting and subcellular organelle isolation, immunohistochemistry, and cell biologic studies. Training will be provided for skills not already acquired. Applicants should have a strong record of scholarly achievement and priority will be given to outstanding applicants with a demonstrated record of productivity as first author on one or more scholarly peer reviewed publications.
Applicants should provide (1) a cover letter describing research interests and accomplishments, and (2) a CV to Lauren Kelly at firstname.lastname@example.org, indicating that the application is for the position within the Grosso lab. The appointment will be for 1 year, with the opportunity for two 2-year reappointments contingent on performance and available funding.
