We have open positions for Postdoctoral Fellows interested in HIV cytoplasmic transport, HIV cellular assembly, as well as improving Lentiviral Vector entry into human hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. The Torbett Group studies HIV entry, evolution, and assembly at the genomic, biochemical and structural levels, as well as human hematopoietic stem cell resistance of HIV lentiviral vector entry (please see: http://hive.scripps.edu and https://www.scripps.edu/torbett/ and PMIDs: 33807824, 33539875, 31778955, 31416800, 30603655, 30301809, 29102562, 26670276, 26086053, and 26049750 for more information). We have recently relocated to Seattle Childrens Research Institute and U. Washington and the group works as a highly dynamic and interactive team, with many ongoing collaborations with members of the HIV In Viral Evolution (HIVE) Center an NIH funded research Center, and collaborators in the Seattle area. The post-doctoral fellows that join our group will participate in studies of: 1) viral entry and host factors that have roles in cytoplasmic transport in hematopoietic cells as related to lentiviral vector gene delivery; or 2) identification of small molecules interact with HIV capsid in the cellular cytoplasm and disrupt function; or 3) host factors that contribute to HIV Gag/Gag-Pol cellular assembly. A background in cell biology and/or biochemistry and viral biology or cell biology and/or hematopoietic stem cell biology and viral biology will be preferred. Fellows that join our group will develop additional scientific skills as appropriate for the research project and carry out research/development activities of assigned research projects. Responsibilities include all protocol development and review, data collection and analysis, manuscript and fellowship application preparation, relevant to the research project. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: – Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. – Excellent oral and written communication skills. – Able to effectively present research findings to various groups. – Able to effectively analyze data and develop conclusions/hypotheses using accepted research methodologies. – Ability to learn and apply new technologies and skills. – Working knowledge of cell biology (culturing of primary hematopoietic cells and cell lines), molecular biology, RNA/DNA isolation, viral biology (HIV or lentiviral vectors preferred) and PCR and flow cytometry will be needed, OR – Various methods of protein isolation and qualification and quantification, CRISPR, and a working knowledge of virus biology, preferably HIV, is preferred. – Knowledge of computer applications and proficiency using software programs related to general lab work, such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & Access), graft pad, as well as software programs for molecular biology analyses and cloning, gel quantification, DNA sequencing, and flow cytometry, Ability to learn and apply new technologies and skills. Required Education/Experience: – PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or DVM in specialty area from an accredited university training program – Experience using basic research techniques of specialty areas Preferred: – Working knowledge of methods for interrogating viral entry and cytoplasmic transport, such as molecular biology, RNA/DNA isolation, CRISPR, and RT-PCR, OR, – Various methods of protein isolation and qualification and quantification, and a working knowledge of virus biology, preferably HIV, OR, – Working knowledge of cell biology, culturing of primary hematopoietic cells and cell lines, molecular biology, and gene therapy.
