A Postdoctoral or research associate position is available to investigate THE BIOCHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL MECHANISMS OF PROTEIN ARGININE METHYLTRANSFERASES (PRMTs) AND/OR THEIR NOVEL SUBSTRATES in the Shechter Laboratory (www.shechterlab.org) in the Department of Biochemistry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Experiments may involve probing the biochemical mechanism of substrate recognition and methylation by PRMT1-9, enzymological parameters, identification and characterization of novel methylarginine effector proteins, and/or cellular or biological consequences of these enzymes’ activities. Cutting edge tools are available, including protein production and purification facilities, quantitative protein analysis and protein interaction tools, epigenomics, computational biology, molecular dynamics, NMR, crystallography, CryoEM, and imaging facilities. The laboratory is fully immersed in the collaborative environment in the Department and across the College with access to all core resources, including the Einstein Cancer Center. The lab is a founding member and active participant in our Chromatin Club, providing a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration. We are supported by multiple NIH grants.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. with a strong research background in biochemistry and molecular biology and evidence of creative and critical thinking. Prior experience with protein interaction studies, enzymology, and/or post-translational modification is desirable. Interested candidates should send their C.V., a summary of their prior work, a brief statement of research interests, and contact information for three references. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
