The Mefford Lab is located at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the new Center for Pediatric Neurological Disease Research We use genome-wide approaches to identify genetic, genomic and epigenetic causes of human disease including epilepsy, intellectual disability, and related pediatric neurodevelopmental disorders. We are recruiting a Staff Scientist to contribute to our work to understand the genetic basis of epilepsy and to characterize the molecular and cellular consequences of pathogenic variants.
Qualified candidates will have a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, developmental and stem cell biology, chromatin biology/epigenetics, and neuroscience substantiated by first author publications in high-impact journals. Direct hands-on experience with biological characterization of gene/protein function are required for this position. A strong background in genomics is preferred. In addition, competitive candidates will be proficient with primary and stem cell culture, iPSC and/or organoid propagation, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, and a wide spectrum of molecular, biochemical, and cellular assays. Excellent written and communication skills, ability to effectively collaborate with fellow trainees and scientists, and execute tasks in a timely manner are highly desired.
