We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in cancer biology and molecular biology to lead a research team of PhD and MSc students in research related to the tumor suppressor protein – p53, colorectal cancer and the gut microbiome. The position is available immediately and is a great opportunity to head an exciting project and an interdisciplinary research team of students and postdocs. We’re looking for people driven by innovation and excellence, considering an academic career in the long run.
Our recent study (PMID: 32728212) highlights the remarkable functional plasticity of mutant p53, as well as the instructive role played by the microbiota in molding this plasticity. Our unexpected findings challenge the common view of cancer mutation effects and underscore their critical dependence on the gut microbiome. In the next phase, we wish to study the dichotomous effect of mutant p53 in Wnt-driven colorectal cancer mouse models: how does p53 counteracts tumorigenesis in the proximal gut while enhancing tumorigenesis in the distal gut. We also wish to expand the mouse findings to a human colorectal cancer setting, by integrative assessment of the gut microbiome and tumor mutations, aiming to test the assumption that the microbiome controls the fate of intestinal cells harboring p53 mutations, whether to stay normal or progress to malignancy.
We are committed to creating a respectful, cooperative, open-minded and stimulatory research environment. Interested candidates (after PhD or post-doc) are welcome to send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and references contacts to Prof. Yinon Ben-Neriah (firstname.lastname@example.org).
