Cancer Metabolism Research Assistant and Research Associate Positions at the Ohio State University Full-time
Research Focus:
There are multiple research positions open in the laboratory of Deliang Guo, PhD, Director of the Center of Cancer Metabolism at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, USA. His laboratory focuses on cancer metabolism, signal transduction, autophagy and miRNA across multiple cancer types, including brain tumors, lung cancer, liver cancer, sarcoma, pancreatic cancer etc. His research also encompasses topics in immune-metabolism, including collaborations with world-leading researchers in immuno-oncology. The long-term goal of this research is to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms of how oncogenic signaling regulates metabolic reprogramming to promote tumor growth, and to identify the key molecular targets to treat malignancies. His lab is dedicated to translational research, assessing molecular alterations in cancer patient tissues obtained directly from patient bedside at the benchtop, with the goal of bringing clinical treatments back to bedside again.

Research Assistant II:
Assists and supports scientific investigations in tumor metabolism and oncogenic signaling pathways with the goal of developing novel therapies for cancer treatment. Independently conducts assigned experiments. Learns and masters a variety of molecular, cellular and biological research techniques and procedures such as DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, fluorescent/ histochemical staining, western blot, etc. Performs routine procedures on laboratory animals (mouse). Consolidates and assists with analysis for research results. Assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures. Summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts. Prepares reports. Assists with lab inventory, organization and purchasing. Sets up, maintains, and operates laboratory equipment. Assists senior lab members with maintaining mouse colonies and supports researchers using animal models. Assists other laboratory personnel as needed. Salary starts at $15.10. Research Associate I:
Participates in planning and management of research in tumor metabolism and oncogenic signaling pathways with the goal of developing novel therapies for cancer treatment. Participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies. Learns and uses new techniques. Designs and executes complex laboratory experiments and performs advanced molecular and cellular techniques. Tests experimental designs and analytical methods and makes recommendations for utilization. Assists in preparation of manuscripts. Oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment. Maintains mouse colonies and supports researchers using animal models. Additional responsibilities may include purchasing/lab inventory and environmental health and safety liaison (chemical/biohazard/radiation). Salary starts at $17.50/hr. See below for further details.

Qualifications:
Research Assistant II: A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate biological/health science field required; internal (OSU) applicants may apply before graduation with 2+ years of lab research experience; proficiency in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or cancer biology is required. Experience with animal models (mouse) or immunology is desired.
Research Associate I: Master’s Degree in an appropriate biological/health sciences field is required. Proficiency in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or cancer biology is required. Proficiency with mouse models or immunology desired. Able to participate in and contribute to design and management of research projects desired.
