Applications are invited for two postdoctoral research positions within the condensed matter physics group in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Manchester. Successful candidates will join a vibrant team of researchers who are at the forefront of research on van der Waals materials and will work on a range of projects related to physics and chemistry of 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures, funded by ERC Consolidator Grant.
The two posts are available from 24 months (with the possibility of extension for further 12 months) and will focus on the investigation of chemical and physical interactions between 2D crystals in van der Waals materials, and their interactions with liquid phases.
The successful candidates will hold or be about to obtain a PhD (or equivalent) in the relevant field. For post 1, preference will be given to applicants with strong expertise in AFM-based near-field scanning optical microscopy and spectroscopy. For post 2, applicants with strong expertise in (micro)electrochemistry will be preferred. Expertise in instrumentation development, experiment control and data acquisition is a plus. Proven proficiency in writing quality research papers is essential. Candidates should be well-organised and self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
