The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of California, Davis invites applications for one Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The postdoctoral scholar will work on a project focused the structural and mechanisms that regulate tubulin dimer biogenesis, regulators of tubulin polymerization and/or mitotic kinesin motor proteins. The Al-Bassam lab utilizes in vitro reconstitution, biochemistry, x-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy as a powerful combination to dissect molecular mechanisms of these systems. We have a particular interest in determining structures of multi-subunit complexes and then we test functional mechanisms using in variety of approaches. The specific project to be pursued will be developed jointly by the candidate and PI upon hiring. Postdocs will be expected to be proficient in the molecular cloning of DNA, recombinant protein production using a variety of expression systems (bacteria, baculovirus, mammalian cells), expertise in structural biology methods such as x-ray crystallography or cryo-electron microscopy and single particle image analysis methods. Please see recently published research from the lab: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=Al-Bassam+J. https://biology.ucdavis.edu/people/jawdat-al-bassam
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or related field, and must have proven productivity with at least one first author publication. In addition, the applicant should be proficient in molecular biology and/or biochemical protein purification and molecular reconstitution methods. The successful applicant will have experience with either: 1) in vitro reconstitution using purified multi-subunit/components assemblies and 2) Structural biology methods such as cryo-EM and single particle image analysis and/or x-ray crystallography.. The applicant should be attentive and reliable with various modes of communication (email, texts, Slack), and will have the motivation to pursue and drive a project independently. Candidates will be expected to apply for independent funding.
SALARY RANGE: $54,540-$65,292 [100% annual], commensurate with qualifications and experience.
POSITION AVAILABLE/CLOSING DATE: For full consideration, all application materials must be received by March 8th, 2021.
The job will remain open for applicants until May 31st, 2021.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT: This one-year appointment is based on the needs of the research project. Appointment may be extended upon satisfactory performance.
To Apply: Qualified applicants should upload submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and research plan, and contact information for three references via this URL:
