Position Overview:
The NeuroTechnology Center (NTC) at the CU School of Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time mechanical engineer with a background in machining to provide advanced technical support for a vibrant neuroscience research community. Using the NTC’s Machine Shop, the engineer will work with individual labs and core facilities to provide prototyping and engineering support to existing neuroscience research programs. A competitive candidate need not be an expert in both mechanical engineering and machining but will be eager and able to learn within both of these fields. The candidate should also possess a high level of self-motivation and direction, excellent communication skills, and the ability to comfortably work with teams of researchers using standard biological model systems.
Examples of Duties Performed
Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of neuroscience, biotechnology, engineering, and data analysis
Design and fabricate prototypes and equipment for neuroscience research, in consultation with researchers.
Assist with the design and development of major neuroscience, biotechnology, and bioinformatics-related engineering projects
Independently operate and maintain Machine Shop equipment.
Manage Machine Shop operations including assessment of needs, acquisition and purchasing of equipment and materials, tracking time and costs, and invoicing for projects.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:
Entry Level: $55,756 to $70,922
Intermediate Level: $60,676 to $77,180
Senior Level: $65,596 to $83,438
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Entry Level:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, biology, neuroscience or a related field of science or engineering from an accredited institution.
Intermediate Level:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, biology, neuroscience or a related field of science or engineering from an accredited institution.
1 year of professional level experience in prototyping, in a tool room shop setting, utilizing machine shop equipment and software.
Senior Level:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, biology, neuroscience or a related field of science or engineering from an accredited institution.
2 years of professional level experience in prototyping, in a tool room shop setting, utilizing machine shop equipment and software
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Substitution, All Levels: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in prototyping or in a tool room shop setting.
Experience operating and maintaining machine shop fabricating equipment, including: manual and CNC milling machines and lathes, drill presses, band saws, grinders, sanders, etc.
Experience with CNC programming.
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software.
Ability to work across software, technology, and machining platforms, even if not an expert in each of these domains.
Master’s degree in an engineering field, computer science, physics, biology, neuroscience or a related field of science or engineering and 1 year of research experience working with teams of engineers and/or researchers.
Competencies
Ability to work independently, self-direct and lead projects.
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
