Askary lab at the University of California, Los Angeles is looking for a postdoctoral scholar who is excited about applying computational techniques including machine learning, quantitative image analysis, and modeling to investigate cell fate specification in the retina. The postdoctoral fellow will perform research on NIH-funded project aimed at recording and reconstruction of cell lineage and molecular history in the mammalian retina. The lab combines computational methods with cutting edge DNA barcoding and spatial transcriptomics techniques to identify principles of cell fate specification in the retina. In addition to addressing fundamental and longstanding questions in neurodevelopment, our goal is to develop novel tools and methods that broaden the scope and utility of spatial genomics. The role will prepare the candidate to lead their independent career, in academia or industry, by providing them with training in a growing field and the opportunity to collaborate with the leaders and pioneers of the field. A wealth of opportunities for learning and engaging in academic activities are available at UCLA. Depending on the background and interests of the candidate co-mentorship may also be arranged.
Candidates must hold a PhD in computational biology or related fields by the start date. Lead-author publication(s) in computational biology is preferred. Candidates must also have strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Candidates should be fluent in Python or R. Familiarity with computing in the cloud/on HPC is a plus. Some experience or familiarity with spatial genomics techniques is preferred.
For questions about the position and/or to apply, please send a CV, cover letter, and contact information of your references to: amjada[at]ucla.edu. The position will remain open until filled. Salary depends on experience, in accordance with NIH and university guidelines. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence.
