The Nachury Laboratory http://nachurylab.ucsf.edu at the UCSF School of Medicine studies the primary cilium, an organelle with central roles in developmental signaling pathways and sensory signaling.
We seek to hire one or more Research Specialists at the Junior, Assistant, Associate, or Full level to study the basic biology of cilia using a combination of biochemistry, biophysics and live imaging. Successful applicants will conduct independent research and assist with lab management and ongoing projects. Past Specialists have published first author papers and gone on to graduate school, medical school and careers in biotech.
The Nachury Lab research team is broadly interested in the trafficking of signaling receptors in and out of cilia. Projects span biological scales from atomic-level structural biology to single-molecule tracking in live cells with occasional forays into animal studies. Dysfunction of the primary cilium causes a host of diseases (the ciliopathies) characterized by retinal degeneration, obesity, kidney malformations and skeletal anomalies. Part of our research is dedicated to understanding the mechanisms that underlie Bardet-Biedl Syndrome, a prototypical ciliopathy.
