The Baraban laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is hiring! We are recruiting a full-time Staff Research Associate I (research technician) to start Spring/Summer 2021. Our laboratory’s research focuses on epilepsy, a neurological disorder afflicting nearly 3% of the world population. We are seeking an SRA-I to support (i) small molecule discovery projects focusing on epileptic zebrafish models and validated assays developed here in our lab (https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2017/03/405986/zebrafish-patient-approach-speeds-search-childhood-epilepsy-treatments) and (ii) development of interneuron-based cell transplantation therapies based on embryonic progenitors (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/08/science/sea-lion-epilepsy-surgery-cronutt.html). The successful candidate will join an energetic team that uses sophisticated molecular biology, electrophysiology, and imaging approaches to advance our translational research program. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with postdoctoral fellows and to collaborate with other laboratories around the Bay Area. This is a great opportunity to gain skills and mentorship before applying to graduate or medical school.
The ideal candidate is independent and well-organized with a B.S./B.A. or M.S. in biological sciences, Neuroscience, or related disciplines. Work will include conventional molecular biology and in vivo methods, including zebrafish/rodent handling and husbandry, behavioral testing, genotyping, and immunohistochemistry.
Previous experience in a laboratory setting with basic laboratory expertise is preferred, including zebrafish handling and basic molecular biology techniques. Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae and contact information for 2-3 relevant referees. Please go to https://barabanlab.ucsf.edu/ (lab website) or @BarabanLab (Twitter) for more details.
