A postdoctoral position is open immediately in a cross-discipline lab at the University of California, Davis to investigate using an RNA editing enzyme as a DNA base editor. Preliminary data have demonstrated feasibility of DNA base editing in vitro. The goal of the postdoctoral position is to expand these studies and translate the base-editing properties into cultured cells to correct disease-causing point mutations. Additionally, structural studies will be implemented using both X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM to better understand the structural basis for DNA editing by this enzyme. The research project is a collaboration between the laboratories of Drs. Andrew Fisher and Peter Beal at the UC-Davis department of Chemistry.
The UC Davis Office of Graduate Studies is the administrative home for postdoctoral scholars. Relevant information for postdoctoral scholars can be found at http://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/postdocs. In addition, there is a Postdoctoral Scholars Association at UC Davis. Information on this organization can be found at http://postdocs.ucdavis.edu.
Applicants must have a PhD with no more than two years of prior postdoc training, some experience in molecular biology, DNA sequence analysis, tissue culture, protein and nucleic acid chemistry. Interested applicants should send their CV and names of three references to Dr. Andrew Fisher. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
