A specialist position (research technician) is available in the Hunt laboratory at University of California Irvine. Primary job responsibilities will include work with mutant mouse models (animal surgeries, behavior assays, brain slice preparation and immunostaining), laboratory management (animal colonies, protocols), assist in the generation and use of new molecular biology tools (viral vectors, reprogramming and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cell lines). The successful candidate(s) will play an important role in our studies on nervous system development and injury.

Our lab is located on the Health Sciences campus at UC Irvine and equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities. UC Irvine is a world-class research university with highly ranked graduate programs in neuroscience and biological sciences. Our Southern California location is home to one of the largest academic research and biotechnology hubs in the US. Lab members enjoy direct access to this outstanding community of neuroscientists and clinicians as well as the wide range of recreational activities available in our region. Successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary and collaborative team working to develop the next generation of tools and technologies to treat disorders of brain development and injury.
Requirements: The successful candidate(s) will have a BS, MS or equivalent degree with proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Prior research experience relevant to our lab interests in neuroscience, molecular biology, or another relevant area is highly desired but not necessary.
Salary Information: Salary will be based on University of California guidelines for the Specialist series and is commensurate with experience. The position is fully funded by NIH grants. We hope that the specialist will stay in the lab for at least 2 years to complete a substantial project. This is an excellent opportunity for recent college graduates who want to spend a couple years as a research technician before entering a PhD program.
