The Sun Lab at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine seeks a postdoctoral fellow to lead a project defining the genomic and epigenomic impacts of corticosteroids in the skin. Corticosteroids are among the most powerful and essential medications for treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. However, some inflammatory diseases are resistant to steroids or can be worsened by them. We aim to discover the molecular reasons that some conditions are refractory or exacerbated by steroids.
This is a multi-year, fully-funded position that will use patient samples, human organoid skin models, and cultured primary skin cells to perform genomic characterization of steroids in human skin tissue. Ideal applicants will have a background in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, and/or bioinformatics with proficiency in mammalian cell culture and an interest in projects that directly interface with patient subjects.
The Sun Lab (http://www.bryansunlab.com) is located in the Altman Clinical Translational Research Institute at UCSD. We are embedded in a research environment that encourages collaboration between clinicians and bench scientists, and share an open lab environment with four other NIH-funded investigators specializing in cancer genetics, epigenetics, immunology, and the microbiome. Our collaborative environment in the perennially sunny climate of San Diego makes for an ideal setting to pursue scientific training at a top-rated research institution while enjoying the diverse environment and beauty of California.
