The Weinstein Lab at the University of Chicago is a dynamic research group in both the Department of Medicine’s Section of Genetic Medicine and the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering. We work at the interface between physics, computation, and molecular biology to create cutting-edge technologies for the visualization and analysis of genomic complexity in multicellular systems. Our lab is located on the beautiful Hyde Park Campus of the University of Chicago, on the shore of Lake Michigan and a 15 minute drive from downtown Chicago.
Our most recent work has been the development of a new imaging modality, DNA microscopy, that uses DNA, instead of light, as an imaging medium to achieve spatial-genetic imaging of “idiosyncratic” biological specimens, such as tumors and lymphatic tissue. Our lab consists of an interdisciplinary team of researchers with interests and expertise spanning biomedical engineering, chemistry, and computational mathematics. We have a keen interest in extending spatial-genetic imaging to address deep and open questions in immunology, cancer biology, and neuroscience.
We are seeking a postdoctoral associate with a background in molecular biology interested in working with us on DNA-based technology development. This position is fully funded, and provides a unique opportunity to work with both members of our group and others at the Departments of Medicine and Molecular Engineering on DNA sequencing and tissue work, using both vertebrate and invertebrate animal models.
A successful candidate will:
1. Work both collaboratively and independently to design technology development projects.
2. Develop protocols with a focus on organization and detail.
3. Gain expertise in genomic technologies and apply this expertise in novel biomedical settings.
4. Analyze genomic data using novel visualization techniques they learn and develop themselves.
5. Co-author manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
6. Present their results at workshops and conferences.
7. Help train and oversee the work of other lab personnel.
PhD in molecular biology, physics, or an adjacent field in the life sciences or engineering.
Knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques required.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
Experience in sequencing analysis and common bioinformatics tools a plus, but not required. Interest in collaborative work is essential.
