The Fromen lab in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) Department at the University of Delaware is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our team. Our lab is focused on translational research to improve inhalable therapeutics, including design of new drug delivery platforms and development of pulmonary models. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated postdoc to join a project constructing a full-sized, dynamic, in vitro model of the lung to assess pulmonary drug deposition. This project is fully NIH-funded with the flexibility to explore different scientific directions and ideas related to modelling of mucosal interfaces.
Preferred Candidates. We welcome applications from scientists of all backgrounds who are excited about improving models of inhalable drug delivery; this is a training experience and we will provide the training! The ideal candidate will have a PhD in chemical, biomedical, environmental, mechanical, pharmaceutical engineering, or a related field, and have experience with aerosol technology, 3D printing, automation/controls, and/or fluids modelling. Applicants with a background in pulmonary models and inhaled pharmaceutics or who are mechanically-inclined are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will also have a strong scientific record, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of team, willingness to help mentor junior scientists, and capacity to manage interactions with faculty and research collaborators. Our Lab. The overarching goal of the Fromen research group is to improve pulmonary drug delivery to patients with respiratory diseases, which are challenged by the overall complexity of the lung, imprecise pharmaceutical formulations, and poorly characterized inter-patient variations. The Fromen lab is developing new technologies that overcome these challenges and disrupt current pharmaceutical approaches for treating lung diseases. These technologies include new physical and quantitative models of lung transport and the respiratory immune system, as well as the design of advanced pulmonary drug carriers. We bring unique approaches and perspective to these problems to surmount longstanding challenges in the field and drive translational advances in pulmonary therapeutics. Our lab houses a range of instrumentation and resources for pulmonary drug delivery; postdoctoral fellows will have access to extensive technical expertise, core facilities, professional mentoring, a strong local pharmaceutical and respiratory network, motivated labmates, and collaborators with relevant clinical and computational expertise. The PI has a strong mentorship record of diverse trainees and will work closely with the fellow on advancing his/her/their career development goals.
The CBE Department, a top-10 ranked program, is part of the University of Delaware, an R1 institution, and has a strong history of catalyzing innovation in pharmaceutics research, development, and manufacturing, as well as a continuing commitment to research which integrates quantitative basic science research with the application of novel, efficacious, and safe delivery approaches. Accordingly, the CBE has a strong history of collaboration and ties to the local pharmaceutical industry and supports a multitude of pharmaceutics research efforts that will provide interdisciplinary, high-profile, and collaborative opportunities, as well as access to ample resources, seminars, centers, institutes, and senior leadership.
