Position Description: The Buell Lab (https://buell-lab.github.io/) joined the University of Georgia Department of Crop & Soil Sciences and the Center for Applied Genetic Technologies in August 2021 and has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. This Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Buell lab will be responsible investigating the evolutionary origins of tuber formation as part of an NSF-funded project. The Post-Doctoral Research associate will be responsible for bioinformatic analyses, data interpretation, functional validation of candidate loci, and manuscript preparation. The Post-Doctoral Associate will also oversee undergraduate students who will generate constructs, perform plant care, isolate nucleic acids, and transform plants.

Salary Information: UGA provides competitive salary and excellent benefits for postdoctoral associates. Starting salary will be $47,500. The position is a one-year initial appointment with potential extension for two additional years. Desired start date is Fall 2021.
Desired Qualifications: Competitive candidates will be broadly trained in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and biology. A research background in the plant sciences with a publication record showing productivity is preferred. Demonstrated leadership in research desired. Demonstrated critical assessment skills essential. Ability to communicate and demonstrate in-depth knowledge on subject matter is required. Strong inter-personal and team work skills required. Proficiency in gene editing, molecular biology, genomics, and/or bioinformatics required.
Required Degree: Doctorate – in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, biology or related field.
