The focus of this funded project is developing integrated photonic devices (waveguides, couplers, and rings) and using them to study nonlinear and quantum behaviors. The post-doctorate scholar will be responsible for designing, fabricating, and characterizing the devices as well as performing complementary theoretical studies. Integration of unconventional materials will also be synergistic track. To a certain degree, the post-doctoral scholar will be given intellectual freedom in defining their research.
Previous experience with the following instruments/techniques are required: nanofabrication methods (cleanroom procedures, fabrication instrumentation, optical and electron microscopy, photo- and electron lithography), device modeling (eg FEM, FDTD), and assorted linear and nonlinear device characterization methods (eg optical loss, lasing, threshold, correlation measurements, grating and endfire coupling). Experience with the following will be an advantage but are not required: SiN and Si device fabrication, 2D material integration.
The Armani lab has a strong track record and culture of mentoring and inspiring the next generation of researchers from high school students through graduate students. Therefore, as leaders in the lab, teamwork skills, passion for mentoring, and just an overall enthusiasm for science are important criteria. Additional information about the culture and philosophy is on the group website.
Application information: Applications should be emailed to Prof. Armani (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the subject line: Postdoc Application. Application consists of: CV with brief (under 200wd) answers to the following questions: 1) Why are you interested in this position? 2) How will doing this post-doctoral study help you in your future career goal?
The starting date is flexible and can range between August 2022 to January 2023. A candidate should have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field. As established by the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, the salary of the scholar will scale with experience, and the minimum salary is $62,400/yr.
