Senior Researcher in the Cortes Lab Full-time

The Cortes laboratory at the University of Southern California is looking for a motivated senior researcher (PhD or +4 years of experience) interested in joining our growing team!  Are you interested in learning about exercise, and why it’s good for you? And why it’s specially good for your brain?

This Lab Manager/Senior Researcher will work in collaboration with scientific cores, collaborating labs, and animal resource programs. The ideal candidate will have a degree in neuroscience, physiology, neurobiology, or a related field (experience may replace degree). Experience with animal modeling is required. The candidates should be hard-working, self-motivated, and have a talent for scientific writing. 

Roles and responsibilities to include:

1. Sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals of modeling age-associated and neurodegenerative disease modeling in vivo and in vitro.
2. Develops and improves techniques for the lab, including molecular and cell biology techniques as well as mouse behavior
3. Cryosectioning of mouse tissues, immunostaining of brain sections and primary culturing are highly valued.
4. Contributes to planning/design of studies, including troubleshooting and SOP generation
   Collects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes data: generation of grant preliminary and publication-quality figures required.
5. Must assist in planning long or short-term goals/fiscal management. Training will be provided.
6. Performs maintenance of lab equipment and supplies: inventory management, ordering, and supply oversights.
7. Mouse colony management: proficiency with mouse modeling, including ear tagging, genotyping, weaning, and breeding of multiple mouse lines is preferred.
8. Supervision and training of junior investigators, including graduate and undergraduate students
9. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
